Below are two examples proposed by Sulawesi Toraja Travel which can be ajusted depending on the number of days : a 8 day-tour to visit Sulawesi plus the Toraja country and a 6 day-tour only in Tana Toraja. This tour can be also proposed on its own with a departure from Ranteapo (4 days in Tana Toraja).

8 DAY-TOUR – Sulawesi and Toraja Country from Makassar (Ujung Pandang)

D1 - Arrival of your flight early morning. You leave the airport by car for Tana Toraja. In the south of Sulawesi, discover the Bugis area with traditional houses on stilts. Have a fish lunch on a beach, taste coffee. After a ride in the mountains with the amazing views up to Rantepao, the capital of Tana Toraja. Accomodation in hotel (according to the chosen rates).

D2 and D3 - Depending on the period of the year (July to November) you may attend a funeral ceremony. Explore the villages with their traditional houses "Tongkonan", made in decorated wood and with their roof in the shape of ship bow (Kete Kesu and Palawa). You will surprised by the graves suspended in cliffs and by the funeral caves in Londa, by the Tau-Tau in Lemo, effigies of the dead people who look at you from the top of their balconies. Admire the royal sepultures in Suaya and the baby sepultures in Kambira. Afterwards you may hike up to Tampang Allo.
On the market in Rantepao (Bolu) or in Makale, attend the trade of pigs and buffles. They are essentialy dedicated for sacrifies during the ceremonies. The buffalo is a holly animal. It allows the soul of the Dead to go to paradise travelling on its back.

D4 - Continuation of the visits then, hiking across the bamboo forests for a few hours. Enjoy amazing views of the rice fields on terraces. Night in a "Tongkonan" house and traditional dinner cooked in bamboo.

D5 - After breakfast, take a walk and meet some people in the villages. Back to the hotel in Rantepao at the end of the afternoon.

D6 - Departure to Palopo Harbour then drive along the coast up to Tempe Lake and its lakeside village of Sengkang. Nearby, visit of the weawing silk workshops. Trip in a motorized rowing boat to discover the live of the people in their floating houses. Accomodation in hotel.

D7 - In the morning, drive to Bira, located in South West Sulawesi. During the drive, stop in Tana Beru to visit the shipyard of the wooden "penisi" shooners that can reach more than 30 meters and about 200 tons. The Bugis carpenters still use ancestral methods. Accomodation in hotel in Bira.

D8 - Departure to Ujung Pandang airport. Drive in the mountains with amazing sceneries. Lunch then flight to other Indonesian Island or back to France. 
 

6 DAY-TOUR – Tana Toraja from Makassar (Ujung Pandang)
